Found this on the kitchen floor last night. Anybody know what it is. I live in eastern California. Its about 2 inches long.

That's a Jerusalem Cricket. It's really a common insect, but it normally lives under the soil, so it is seldom seen, thus earning the title of "Most often requested for ID".

Cindy C, thank you. I'm glad to hear what it is and I've let him free in the garden. I hope he eats some squash bugs. I thought it was a fascinating creature but I have to say that it gave me quite a start when I found it on the kitchen floor.
