insects, praying mantis egg case

| I live in zone 5 and have found a praying mantis egg case in my christmas tree. We have a Fraser fir which most likely came from North Carolina. The temperature has already been below zero here. I really do not want to put the egg case outside for fear they may die. I had heard that I may keep it in the refridgerator during the winter months. Does anyone have any advice or tips for me? I am hoping there are no more in my tree otherwise my cats might get a snack within the next couple of days. Had one hatch in the house as a kid it was crazy. Thanks. |

| I would suspect that if the egg case were on a Fraser fir, it was probably grown in a cold part of NC and the mantid species must be one that has eggs that can winter over in even your climate. Joe |
