It appears to be the cocoon of a Cecropia moth, Hyalophora cecropia. If you can see it when it hatches out in the spring, it's pretty impressive. Check the link below - Tucker

Thnaks alot! Hopefully,when it merges from the cocoon, I will be able to get a picture of it.I have used Nanny Cams to tape the inside of Bluebird boxes,just to see what goes on in there.Really neat watching those babies grow! from this, I managed to get some great pictures that I put on a CD. So, the Nany Cam will be aimed at that Cocoon! Thanks for the Link,really interesting reading!

The cocoons in the picture is most a cecropia cocoon, although Auotomeris Io tends to like cherry much more. Did you leave it on the cherry tree? If not did you overwinter it?
