what to feed indoor damselflies?

Posted by nature_girl_LI (My Page) on

I have an indoor 'fish' tank that houses my newts. I put some plants from my pond in there a few months ago. Today I found 2 damselflies in the tank. It's too cold outside to let them go. I'd like to feed them. Any suggestions? I'm heading to the pet store to pick up live fruit flies. And does anyone know how long they can live? Will they survive until May?
TIA~Nancy

You are on the right track. Feeding them fruit flies is tried and tested. The adult lifespan is one or two weeks. They require 10 flies per day per adult damselfly.

Info on laboratory rearing of damselflies

Thanks Larry! I feel better knowing they only live for that long as adults. I don't want them to die by starving to death, ya know? (Certainly not when they are under MY care.)Thanks for the good link. :o) ~Nancy
