Hi, can anyone id this insect for me.... they try to live in carpenter bee holes...thank you!

Yes, it's a bald-faced hornet. "Bald" is old english meaning "white". So when they say "bald mountain" it's a mountain with white snow on top. "Bald eagle" means it has a white head. A bald man's head is white because he (in the 1700s) typically was not exposed to the sun as wigs were in fashion.

She's not trying to live in the carpenter bee's tunnel, but getting at the larvae inside.
