animal parts in my yard!!! help.

For the past six days I have been waking up to animal parts left in my yard and I haven't been able to determine what type of animal is doing this. I have found pieces of furry flesh which appears to be rabbit fur, large strips left in various places in the yard, some on the yard furniture some on the ground. I have also found animal organs and intestines. I found three different types of animal organs and I have found a pile of intestines on the ground and there was a long piece of intestine drapped over the back of a chair. Yuck. I haven't found any paw prints anywhere so I am assuming some type of bird or owl? I have a very large pine tree in the backyard. I have a small dog that I am worried about as well as my 1 year old son who likes to play in the yard...I would hate to have him come across any of the remains that I may have missed in my daily cleaning ritual. Any suggestions as to what it could be? Much appreciated.

Wow! It sounds kind of gory, and possibly dangerous to your pets and son! I can't give you any advice on what kind of animal may do this, but I would certainly buy an inexpensive security camera and set it up so that you can watch your yard and maybe capture the action so you can identify the culprit. We have 2 security cameras hooked up to a small TV that we keep on by the big screen, it just brings in live feed so we can watch the driveway and the front door area. Its not every expensive to set up either. Linda

It`s possible that it is a bird but not likely being six days in a row. Have you got any angry neighbors. Or possibly a racoon under your house.

Animal predators are unlikely to scatter body parts like that ... they eat and leave gory bits, but usually close together. A predatory bird, if it is eating in a tree, can scatter bits all over the place, especially if they use multiple feeding perches or are feeding fledglings that squabble over the food and drop half of it. Horned owl would be my guess.

Check under the largest of the trees for the little 'hairballs'...regurgitation pellets...that owls spit up when perching. They contain fur, teeth, little bones, and other bits and pieces of indigestible body parts. Are there large trees located in the rest of the neighborhood? Look for owl droppings at the base of trees or on the ground.

Owls do not shred there kills they swallow them whole. Hawks and eagles shred there pray. Rabbits are a mainstay in both of there diets. Owls pray on mice, gophers and voles.
