 o
binoculars for $100-$150

Hi. I'm looking for the best binoculars for bird watchign I can get in this price range. I've had some recommendations for the Nikon action series, as well as Pentax PCF series. I have a crappy, $15 pair of 12x25 bonocs--terrible focusing mechanism, not at all sharp, super small view. About anything would be a step up I suspect. As the title indicates, my budget is AT MAX $150. Something less would be great, although I realize I may be pushing the threshold for cost/performance.

Also, I read on a previous question on this forum about zooms. Any good zooms in this price range?
Thanks!

I can vouch for the Nikon Actions as I have an 8-10 year old pair of of 10X50 ones and my wife just selected a 7X35 pair (model 7215) this month. I like the way the new ones are rubber armored. They have outstanding sharp optics and are very bright. The 7X35 just cost $68 from Academy and I suspect you can get them a little cheaper online. They are not waterproof but for the price are a great value. Nikon binoclars have a 25-year warranty against defects and they have a lifetime "no-fault policy" whereby they will either fix or replace them for $10 plus shipping and handling even if the problem was your fault.

There are no good zooms. If you can go to a store where you can look at several yourself, you should be able to get quite servicable binocs for around $100. For birding check out 7x35 or 8x40 for better general use and be sure to check out close focus, nothing more frustrating to have a really good look at something small and not being able to focus, birding often leads to butterflies and dragonflies!

Look at Eagle Optics
Bushnell Binoculars Legend 10x50 Porro OFFER

Pentax Binoculars PCF WP II 8x40 $119

I have bought from Eagle before and I trust them.

Also look at B&H Photo, who I use a lot.
