I'm looking for a recommendation on an under $1000 non-SLR digital camera for taking nature photography. I like taking pics of butterflies, other insects, plants, and birds. I also like digiscoping. So I am lookign for something with good zoom, great macro, and the ability to digiscope. I'm looking for the best recommendations. Thanks so much.

Is there a reason for avoiding the SLR? You can get a Nikon D50 with a pretty good lens for under $1000 and avoid the frustration of the shutter delay on the point and shoot cameras.

Here is a link that might be useful: Nikon D50
