Lake Mattamuskeet

Hi All

If you are starting to plan a birding trip this winter I recomend Lake Mattamuskeet NWR in Hyde County, Eastern North Carolina.

This area is one of the major wintering areas for waterfowl on the east coast. I was talking to a wildlife biologist last year and she estimated about 500,000 ducks, geese and swans use Lake Mattamuskeet.

When the birds lift off the lake in the early morning it looks like clouds coming off the water. And don't forget your tape recorder....the sound of half a million birds talking to each other is indescriable.

Here are a few of the pics I took last year http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/stan6637/album?.dir=/f5ac&.src=ph&.tok=ph559vDBl0R4k8SD
