are eagles very dark

I saw these birds from a distance that are large and dark. I think they are larger than a "chicken hawk" more the size of an eagle. I know about 1/4 mile away from here they have been seeing them and 2 years ago there was one in evergreen tree in this area. My husband thought when they were young they were dark. I was looking from my large window and couldn't get close.

RE: are eagles very dark

Bald Eagles develop the white head as they mature. Golden eagles stay brown. There are also dark varieties of hawks and owls. Black vultures and turkey vultures are huge birds too.

Good binoculars will help you ID the birds.

And knowing where you live would help ID the bird.
