A huge hawk is terrorizing my chickens, what can I do?

| I have been reading posts on this site and everyone keeps saying hawks won't disturb anything above 4lbs... I just caught a hawk eating one of my chickens yesterday afternoon. She was a silkie so not very large. This has happened once before last summer so I did not worry about it much as the hawk never returned. However, later yesterday afternoon I found the same hawk sitting on a doorway to my chicken coop trying to come up with the courage to go in!!! My remaining 7 chickens are all large, 10+lbs, and they were inside, terrified. The hawk flew away as soon as I walked out.
But all evening, and all this morning I can hear the hawk scream! The chickens are not acting normal, they are just cowering in their building not eating. I don't even see squirrels on my yard (I have 3 pecan trees)... And my two labs seem freaked out as well!!!
What can I do to make this hawk go away??? I have seen hawks before but this seems much larger and bolder than any others. It is well over 1' tall when sitting on the ground.
I would really appreciate suggestions,
Thanks,

| Fenced chicken runs with a cover of chicken wire are the solution. Free range chickens = lunch for all kinds of predators. After you cover the run, place a few branches, or strips of shade cloth, across the top so the chickens have a greater sense of security. |

| I realize this is an older thread, but you might want to check out the Farm life forum. Lots of talk about the same issue there.
