A visitor to the nest box

I went out to collect eggs the other night and encountered this beauty. Luckily I was able to catch and rehome him about 5 acres away. I had 2 more come within two weeks and was able to relocate them as well. Most chicken folks think I'm crazy for not just killing them. I just figure for all the beneficial work they do, I can spare an egg or two.

What a fantastic picture!! I am curious- did you wait til he finished his meal before relocating or did you move him with egg in mouth?! yes, thank you for not killing such a beauty, although hungry!

No I did not let him finish the egg because the egg would have finished him first. It is a 'dummy' egg I put in my nestboxes to encourage the hens to "lay here". That big white egg is the size of a peacock egg and hard as rocks. It must have been fate that I found him when I did. I will say that he already had two eggs in him when I relocated, so he didn't go completely hungry.
