Yet another snake ID

| This little guy/gal has taken up in one of my perennial beds - it's one of the first I've seen since moving in here 8 years ago. We're happy to have him/her and are just curious as to what it is. My pictures never seem to match up with the ones I find on the internet. Some type of garter?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know your location, and there are several garter snakes, but I have no doubt that he/she is one of them. Harmless and helpful. Great find.

Oops - I meant to mention where I am: middle Tennessee. Thanks for the info!

Wow what great snake pics several here have posted. Types of pics you put in books or reptile magazine real nice

He is peeking through the leaves; very cute.

Looks like he/she is a good size too. We have some in our yard that are huge. Unfortunely neighbors on both sides kill any snakes they see. Before these "killers" moved in it wasnt unusual for the snakes to sun on our stone porch while we were sitting on chairs.
