I'm heading for AZ and monsoon herping soon

| Hi all,
I'm really psyched that I'll be flying out to Arizona on Saturday for a week and a half of AZ monsoon season herping. I'll be meeting up with family out there and may have to mix in some non-herping activities but should have plenty of time to herp. We'll be spending most of our time in Cochise County and in one of the sky island mountain ranges near the AZ-NM border (is that enough of a hint? ;-)).
I'll hopefully have a trip report with some cool pics when I get back. We won't have computer access down there and my point and click digital only holds so many pictures so I'll have to be a little more conservative in pic-taking than I'd like to be.
Anyhow do a little monsoon rain dance for me and get the herps a movin... ;-) |

| Congrats Wayne. I am sure that you will do well down there. I have been advised of several Bigfoot encounters in Cochise County. Appearently Bigfoot has been eating all the milk snakes, thus making them harder to find. Watch yourself! lol... chad |

| Thanks Chad, BTW what do you know about the status of Milk Snakes in Cochise County? I know they are technically listed as part of Cochise County's herpetofanua now. Is this based on one or two records or are they somewhat established, albeit very rare, there? Do you know when they were discovered in the county? Some of my field guides have a dot there, others don't. -Wayne |

| I will try to provide some info based off of memory... I believe that a few milk snakes have been found in Cochise County, but less than three have ever been recorded by an academic source. Andy Holycross found one, I think...And I know that there have been some anecdotal sightings of milk snakes in Cochise. Andy found his milk while doing the Massasauga study a few years back. I wouldn't expect to see one. :) chad |

| I'll have a digital camera at my disposal too Wayne. If I see either a milk snake or bigfoot I will snap a photo. I just realized any snake I see will be a lifelister unless its a western diamondback or checkered garter, and I haven't seen either of those in the last 5 years so really any snake is going to be atreat. No Prairie Ringnecks or Northern Water Snakes to just pad the count...yippee!! |
Speaking of monsoons....

| My last wild snake sighting was May 22nd---that is one long drought. I am going to bust that drought with a willardi or sidewinder or something cool. |
