One of my barn cats was playing with this snakeinm dog's yard. Anyone know what kind of snake it is? It did not show any kind o aggression to the cat or me when I put it in the bucket.

Here is a link that might be useful: snake pic

Its an Eastern Garter Snake. Its a very attractive one and is a virtually stripeless pattern morph that I don't see very often. Most Eastern Garter Snakes have distinctive stripes running the length of their body. This one lacks those distinctive stripes.

He was very pretty, I rescued him from the cat and let him loose in the woods. Fast moving little bugger.

Very pretty, and many thanks for rescuing it. Garters are very variable, and the checkered form is rarely seen, especially in the Eastern species. Easterns vary in temperament from very laid back to very aggressive; i have handled many calm ones, and been bitten solidly by others. The bites are superficial and harmless, of course.
