Back from Arizona monsoon herping....

Wayne and I have returned from Arizona and will have complete trip reports soon. We each saw some really cool stuff. The montane rattlesnakes eluded us but the desert dwellers were out in good numbers. It took four days for me to find a snake but l stumbled across a gorgeous gila monster (lifelister) on the second day.

Snakes seen:
Western Diamondbacks-8
Mojave Rattlers (lifelister) - 4
Checkered Garter- 1
Blacktail Rattlesnake (lifer)- 1

DORs
diamondback-2
mojave-2
checkered garter-1
painted desert/arizona glossy (intergrade)-1 (lifer if I included DORs)

Other extra cool sightings

Reticulate Gila monster-1 (lifer)
Desert Tortoise -1 (lifer)
California Condor -1 (lifer/reintroduced in Grand canyon NP)

Added many other lifelist lizards, amphibians and birds which I will mention with longer trip report post.

Also was stopped by Border Patrol for "suspicious driving" and detained briefly by US customs after a foray into Mexico. More details on trip forthcoming in later post...hopefully with my gila monster pics included.

After looking at my trip photos it appears I misidentified a juvenile Mojave as a Diamondback. That changes my totals to 7 Diamondbacks and 5 Mojaves.
