Please ID this snake

Hi folks,
I have a family of snakes living under the sidewalk of my property, which is in the Catskill Mountains of New York. There are other snakes out in the grass, but these critters are fairly close to us and I'd like to know what kind of snakes they are.

Here is a photo I took of one of 'em yesterday. He's about two feet long I'd estimate.

I like these guys because I know they enjoy feasting on rodents, which I despise, but I'm curious to know if they're poisonous etc. Thanks.

RE: Please ID this snake

Eastern Gartersnake (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis) Not venomous and completely harmless. Like most snakes, they will bite if harassed.

The one pictured looks to be a gravid (pregnant) female. Gartersnakes don't lay eggs, but give birth to live young.
