land snails

I know this is so weird, but I really love large land snails. I'm having trouble finding out if they are legal to keep as pets. I know certain water snails are regulated and require an APHIS permit to sell and ship, and some (like the large Cana apple snails) are banned entirely, but the only thing I can find on land snails, is that the giant african ones are illegal. Which is fine with me because I don't think I need a foot long pet snail.

If anyone happens to know if it's legal to keep land snails as pets, please let me know. If it is, and you happen to have some cool ones in your area, let me know. I've shipped fish and herps before and can give you instructions and payment! (only if it's legal though!)

Yes land snails are pretty fun to have, especially when they eat. I'm sorry but I don't have any idea on which ones are legal/illegal. Personally I think if the snail is native to your area and it isn't endangered, it should be fine to keep. But I don't want to get anyone in trouble with the law so you might not want to keep any until you find out for sure...

RE: land snails

I cannot imagine anyone would care if you kept a snail in a terrarium or such. There are some large ones that can be something of a pest on farms and my local ones, along with slugs, are pest in the garden, but how could that affect you, if you are not breeding them and letting them go. I was much interested in the small ones I saw, locally, that were shaped like a ramshorn snail with cloudy bands of muted colors on the shell. They were around a rental property we had that was sold and now overcome with truly modern construction.
