Snake ID????

I've been finding these little snakes in my yard, dead ones mostly, and was wondering what kind snakes they are?? And what might be attracting them to my yard, because I have lived here for about 3 years and this is the first year I have ever seen them, I started growing vegetables in containers this spring, and was wondering if that may have something to do with it, I get those really big fat green hornworms(tomato or tobacco, not sure which one) and was wondering if these snakes eat things like the hornworms, anyway thanks!

Here is a link that might be useful: what kind of snake is this??

It looks like a juvenile yellow-bellied water snake (Nerodia erythrogaster flavigaster)to me. Its definitely some sort of harmless water snake for sure. Not sure why they are in your yard. Any streams or ponds nearby? They pretty much feed exclusively on fish and amphibians so I don't think your worms would have anything to do with it.

Thanks! There is a canal/creek that runs along behind the neighborhood, my neighboor found a 4ft water moccasin on his carport about two weeks ago. The ones that I have seen that look like this, that were not dead, were barely moving and seemed to be sick or dying, maybe that is why they are coming out of the canal and ending up in the yard/driveway etc?? thanks for the info!!

His belly was white, not yellow, do the juveniles have white bellies? not sure if this info makes a difference or not, I just thought about fact that his belly was white, really white, i distinctly remember because when I picked him up with a stick to throw him away, he flipped over and was on his back and it was solid white on his belly

Yep. It is a juvenile Yellowbelly water snake. The juveniles look different than the adults both on top and underneath.
