Eeeeewwwww!
I love snakes...don't get me wrong...but I'm not fond of surprises.
While I was digging up night crawlers for my frogs, I uncovered this little guy.
Please tell me it's a harmless garter snake.
It was striking repeatedly when the flash would go off...ugh! LOLAM

It is a Garter Snake. Looks like an Eastern Garter Snake (Thamnophis Sirtalis Sirtalis) maybe with some Blue Striped Garter (Thamnophis sirtalis similis) influence.

You're sure? LOL Sorry...I'm just being overly cautious, I guess. I had no idea they would strike. I must've really ticked him off when I unearthed him...or her. Guess I'll just cover it back up with the dirt...although I have to admit, I don't much care for them. LOL *Would never harm one, though...don't anyone yell at me, OK? LOLAM |

Yes, it's definitely a garter snake. And a fine looking one at that. Nice pics! Garter snakes can vary greatly in temperment. Most will simply flee. Others like yours will stand and defend themselves against a large scary predator like us. No worries though, they're harmless.
OK...thanks folks!

...I feel better now. I just went back out there to the Crabapple tree and he's gone. Dunno if I'm relieved or more afraid, cause I don't know where it is now...LOL

This snake has some nice patterning. The characteristic yellow stripe is barely visbile. Florida Garters are attractive.
