Saw 110 snakes today! A single outing best for me.

My total by species was: 36 Intergrade Red-Sided/Eastern Garter Snakes, 31 Eastern Yellowbelly Racers (including 7 juveniles), 23 Orange-Striped Ribbon Snakes, 5 Prairie Ringneck Snakes, 5 Midland Brown Snakes, 4 adult Black Rat Snakes, 3 Northern Water Snakes, 2 adult Osage Copperheads, 1 Northern Redbelly Snake (Red-phase)

Warm fall days are awesome!

So wonderful to see a post from you, Wayne, even though your totals drive home the fact that I see so few snakes!! Now if you would just include a few pictures, it would be even better. I did see something exciting on 9/26 at one of my favorite herping spots- tiny hatchling snapping turtles coming up through a hole in the path from their nest. I recalled that a man told me a couple months ago that he saw a snapping turtle digging a nest 'right on the path'.

Lucky dog. It's been a bad year for me and snakes... (I don't count the black racers in my parents yard... they're just landscape features.) The only snakes I've seen have all been dead on the road ~all year !!

My fiancee, however, has been making all kinds of sightings at work... eastern coachwhips, indigos, rough green snakes, yellow and red rats... not nearly in the numbers you're talking about, but at least he's seeing them.

Of course with two little ones it's kinda hard to get out and go looking for any... one of these days...
