frog tadpole

I was clearing leaves from my small pond in the shallow area 6" deep.I live in NYS on long island.

I scooped up a green frog tadpole yesterday.

Question is should it leave alone or bring inside to a 10 gallon setup with other plants and fish?

RE: frog tadpole

Since it is so late in the year i think it is safe to assume that this tad will stay a tad all winter and so will be fine in a tank of small fish. If he developes all 4 legs and starts to lose his tail you will need to rescue him from drowning in a tank by providing a place for him to climb on. If your pond has a deep end he can probably winter there. In a tank he will enjoy decaying plants like letuce. If he has external gills he is not a tad but a newt and will have a large mouth capable of swallowing your fish. In new york you have very carniverous spotted salamander newts that look very much like the woodfrog tads they love to eat Good luck Ric
