Towns that are Implementing Sustainability

There are a number of towns which are preparing and implementing plans to become more sustainable in a wide variety of ways.

Here are some sites:

http://transitionculture.org/ Has info about Transition Town Totnes in England, among others. The direct site is: http://www.transitiontowns.org/Totnes/

http://www.globalpublicmedia.com/articles/533 Talks about several towns including Sebastopol, CA and Willets, CA and their plans. Scroll down to the bottom, it has a nifty chart with some great ways to lower use of oil, including some changes that are inexpensive and not too painful!

http://www.energybulletin.net/11464.html Short discussion of the Kinsale (Ireland) energy descent plan, produced by students at a two-year college Permaculture program, and adopted by the Town Council!

What are you doing in your community or town?

No official awareness or advisory yet in areas I live in. On an informal community level there is some awareness and even some action, on a local gov. level, not much.

Someone in my town started the best recycling system I've ever seen!
You can recycle all types of papers, plastics, tins, computers components, glass, clothing and there's a spot called leave it or take it that is very popular as well.
Every town should have an organized recycling system like that. I recycle everything I can think of!

Here is a link that might be useful: recycling/ for nature lovers
