Oceans issues: This morning I managed to hear just a swatch from some sort of address actress Sigourney Weaver gave to some kind of international assemblage, about the great havoc wreaked by bottom trawlers. Specifically large coporate-owned vessels. I've done a couple searches on the Web and not found mention of Ms. Weaver's speech.
Anybody else hear it or know anything about it? Info about it might fit in well with some work I'm doing right now. Thanks.
Thanks, Shax. (Actually, I sent you a 'thanks' on your e-mail address given on your GW "My Page"... not sure, though, if you're still using that addy.)
Tom, you wrote: "Although widespread trawiling can be a disaster who really cares what Sigourney Weaver has to say about it?"
I think Sigourney Weaver's done some decent work as an actress, but many actors/actors have. I'm not a member of any Sigourney Weaver fan club. Celebrities get attention, though. Sometimes their involvement helps to spread awareness quite a bit.
I remember when a number of celebrities brought attention to the "cruel" killing of seal pups in the Canadian maritime region (the pups were clubbed to death for their valuable fur). Well, I didn't think that was so important an issue (the cruelty)... to my mind, a habitat and/or species-population issue involving animals might be important.
Anyways, the issue is always the main thing, not the celeb, per se. But a public figure was trying to bring public attention to a very important issue. And that related to a project I was working on. No problem if it's not an interest of yours.
