 o
low platelet count in dogs

Our dog Bobby was diagnosed with a very very low platelet count several months ago. Our vet put him on prednisone, and although this did seem to do the trick at first, the side effects were not good. He was going to the toilet non stop, due to the tablets making him eat and drink like he was starving. When we started to ween him off of these, his platelet count dropped dramatically again. He then went on to a combination of prednisone and Azamun. Again his platelets shot up, but the effects of Azamun were awful. He became hyper and quite agressive, and could not settle for more than five minutes at a time. In short we were unable to do anything with him. Since weening him off the Azamun, his platelets have dropped yet again. We have made the decision of no more tablets now. If he is unable to sustain a platelet count without the tablets, we can not put him through anymore. At present, with no tablets, he is a happy and contented dog. Whether we have him for two week, two months or two years, at least we know that his remaining life will be filled with love and affection.
